Zahnrad, Atem, Objektiv, Reibelaute, Greifer, Stimmlippen, Keilriemen, Mundhöhle, Prisma. Die Linse weit geöffnet – die Pupillen auch. Licht strahlt ins Innere: Der cinematografische Apparat wird klanglich seziert und elektronisch verfremdet. Mechanische Klangwände verschmelzen mit dem Rattern abstrakter Stimmklänge. Der Raum wird zur Leinwand — Sprachlaute flimmern im Licht neuer Kontextualisierung.

Agnes Hvizdalek is an improvising musician originating from Vienna’s experimental music scene and has been based in Oslo since 2008. From an early age, she has dedicated her life to new music and her fascination with the human voice. She celebrates this in her abstract vocal music, for which she has received international acclaim. Always exploring new horizons, Hvizdalek has engaged in numerous cross-disciplinary collaborations merging voice and visual and performance art, dance, theatre, film, writing. agneshvizdalek.at

Stefan Voglsinger is an Austrian musician and performer. Voglsinger is exploring sound on stage, in the studio and in the field, as well as improvising and composing activities for music, film, dance and theatre projects. Voglsinger performs with amplified objects, 16mm projectors, drums and electronics. At Setzkasten Wien he organizes and curates regularly concerts and performances.

Lauri Hyvärinen (Helsinki) – acoustic or electric guitar, effect pedals, objects

Ilia Belorukov and Lauri Hyvärinen met in 2012 at a jam session in Helsinki, a starting point for their long-term friendship and work. Together they played with a variety of musicians before starting their duo. Starting from free improvisation traditions and continuing with quiet contemporary composition, the musicians now approach their music from a more compositional point of view, carefully choosing each sound they produce. The range of sounds used is very wide, from using the surfaces of acoustic instruments such as saxophone or guitar to pick up sounds, to feedback in effect pedals chain or software/hardware modular synthesizer. The duo has several releases on Pan Y Rosas Discos (USA), Rypistellyt Levyt (FI) and Spina!Rec (RU) labels. They will be on their first big tour in November 2017 after some smaller ones in Finland, Russia and Baltic States.

Lauri Hyvärinen (b. 1986, Helsinki) uses guitar as his main sound source. His sound and music related activities are of theoretical and practical nature, of which improvisation remains as his primary medium and interest. With guitar (electric and acoustic) he searches for microscopic details and variations in sound, using various miking and amplification techniques like contact mics and broken amplifiers while searching for resonations of the strings and body with fingers, picks and household objects.

Ilia Belorukov is a musician from Saint-Petersburg, Russia. He works in the directions of improvised, noise and electroacoustic music. He’s a member of different projects with local and foreign musicians. He collaborates with artists who work in other musical directions (from hardcore and metal to academic contemporary music); with dancers and painters; with theater. Ilia practices an experimental approach of sound extraction on alto saxophone with objects, uses electronics and other instruments. Also he is a founder of Intonema label (www.intonema.org) and one of curators of Spina!rec label (www.spinarec.bandcamp.com). Organizer of events in Russia, co-organizer of the SpinaFest and Teni Zvuka festivals in Saint-Petersburg. He writes reviews for his own blog on Syg.ma, was reviewer of Contemporary Music, Music & Time, Topot and GEZeta journals. http://belorukov.blogspot.com

Naomi Rincón Gallardo (MEX): “The Formaldehyde Trip”

The Formaldehyde Trip is a speculative fiction comprising a cycle of songs and videos dedicated to murdered Mixtec activist Bety Cariño. By deploying suppressed Mesoamerican cosmologies and decolonial feminist perspectives, DIY crafty and ornate props and stages, echoes from Mexican B-side Sci-Fi films from the 60s and 70s, sounds and voices from the past lurking into the future, The Formaldehyde Trip imagines Bety Cariño’s journey to the underworld, where she finds women warriors, witches and widows, both-sexed deities and animals preparing her re-birth party.

With an interest in radical histories and speculative fictions, Naomi Rincón Gallardo works across performance and video to investigate utopian possibilities and belief. Her often music-based narratives draw on counter-cultural forms like punk, DIY aesthetics, and queer identities to reframe touchstones in Mexican and Mesoamerican politics. As both an artist and an educator, she foregrounds research tools from feminist theory and radical theater to imagine new types of social engagement, encounter, and play. Rincón Gallardo lives and works in Mexico City and Vienna. The Formaldehyde Trip forms part of her PhD in Practice at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
